He was a soldier who came from Africa, with a reputation of being a military hero. Othello chose a young and less experienced soldier to be second in command, Michael Cassio. Jealous, Iago believed that he was more qualified for the second in command position and so he planned to get revenge on Othello. Iago was two-faced, he planned to ruin Othello while pretending to be his friend. Roderigo is someone who also hates Othello because he was in love with Othello’s wife, Desdemona. He then Unites with Iago to harm Othello so he can get Desdemona’s love. Jealousy is a bitter emotion or feeling towards someone who takes what is yours.In Othello, William Shakespeare created the most evil person in all of literature, Iago. Iago wanted revenge on Othello because he gave the second in command position to Cassio, which Iago believed was not qualified for the position. Out of revenge, Iago successfully planted the seeds of jealousy into Othello’s mind when in the garden he insinuated that Cassio and Desdemona were having an affair, when Iago had his wife, Emilia, steal the strawberry embroidered handkerchief and when iago lied to Othello about Cassio’s so-called wild dream.
