Causes of Divorce in the United States
When most people get married, they are expecting to live happily ever after. They are not expecting their marriage to end in divorce. However, almost 50% of marriages today in the United States do end in divorce. This is an alarming statistic that continues to rise year after year. To say that nearly half of marriages end in divorce sounds a lot like saying marriage is just a game of chance. Divorce has been a topic for concern for a long time, but it is more prevalent now than it was 50 years ago. Usually the breakdown of a marriage doesn’t happen overnight. Just as every marriage has different complications and obstacles, so is the cause for each divorce. Sadly, today the bulk of separations in America today take place for less pressing reasons than in the past. When people get married, their heads are often filled with thoughts of champagne, roses, long walks in the park and other idealistic scenarios. Many expect the relationship to remain the same as it was prior to marriage. This is not a realistic expectation. It is this very mind state that create numerous issues within marriages. For many, the expectation of what marriage is supposed to be is unrealistic. The idea of meeting someone, falling in love, and living happily ever after clouds the vision of what married life is really about causing undesirable situations to occur that ultimately lead to divorce.
