Cause and Effect Essay Four degrees warmer doesn’t sound too bad right? Well what if it caused major floods, severe droughts and heat waves. Doesn’t sound too nice anymore does it? In the year of 2100, that could happen if more people are not aware of how climate change could affect their lives in the future. With the high rise of greenhouse gases, public denial and no steps toward change in laws and regulations, climate change will affect future generations for the worse. Carbon dioxide is the most important heat-trapping gas in the atmosphere. In the recent article, “Heat-Trapping Gas Passes Milestone, Raising Fears” Justin Gillis reported a new measurement of carbon dioxide that was taken from analyzers on top of Mauna Loa, Hawaii. The devices that sample the air produced a record of concentration that has not been seen on earth for millions of years (Gillis). This is not good news for the planet and for everyone living on it. Pieter P. Tans, who runs the monitoring program at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, states, “It symbolizes that so far we have failed miserably in tackling this problem” (Gillis). Finding ways to control carbon dioxide is no easy task though. Almost every time someone drives a car, takes a plane ride, and in most places, a light switch is flipped, it adds carbon dioxide to the air and little money is being spent to find ways to make alternative technologies (Gillis).
