Separation and Divorce Separation- is a legal status where married couples may disentangle their finances without divorce. Divorce- is the final termination of a marriage, canceling the legal duties and responsibilities of marriage and dissolving the bonds of matrimony between two persons. Shoba and Shukumar, having planned a good life ahead of them had a sudden change in plans when their child had died. After that incident Shoba planned to separate from Shukumar and this did not help save their marriage. Her reasons for leaving Shukumar were because of their failure to love, communicate, and the change of roles between the two. Although, the decision of a divorce was never established it would have been for the better. Also another …show more content…
Shukumar is 36 years old, doesn’t go to school, and he doesn’t have a job. In most divorce cases this becomes a typical reason on why divorces are caused, this one being about finances and debt. This bothers Shoba as she sees that Shukumar has become undependable and unreliable. For example, Shukumar one day was supposed to go to the supermarket and pick up groceries for dinner, but instead he had become lazy, and procrastinated. This proved to Shoba that his inability to cope with their loss had deeply impacted him. Though the situation Shukumar was in made it hard for him to change his ways. He was described as unreliable and lazy by Shoba. Shukumar although redeems himself as instead of providing for the house he cooks every night. In essence, during the process of divorce, it may hurt the family or relationship people are in for a little, but it is for the betterment of the family or person in its current safeguard with finances and debt that the other person might have caused. Married couples have issues over shared financial responsibility, inequality, overspending and lack of financial support. This type of situation is perfectly exemplified in Shoba’s current predicament. Evidence suggests though money is not always the sole or primary cause of divorce. In contrast, it is still a significant factor and most divorces are anticipated to resolve these issues of financial support. Still, divorce also helps prove who the financial
