Throughout history women have fought to have the same rights and privileges as men. To this day women do not seem to be treated the same as men in the workforce. It appears that women have given up the fight for equal rights. Although women have stood up for what they believe in, there are still many aspects of the workplace that are not as equal as the opportunities that men are given. For hundreds of years women have fought to have equal rights in the workplace. First, it was not uncommon for a woman to be a prisoner in her own home. The man of the house was the one who brought all the income home and the woman took care of the all the cooking, cleaning, and tending to the children. Daniel "Nene" Alejandrez was touched from hearing a passage that Cesar Chavez said over the radio '"…You must organize. You must seek justice. You must ask for better wages"' (127). Even though Daniel "Nene" Alejandrez was speaking about being a migrant worker in the watermelon fields of central California, it still speaks to all genders, religions, and ethnic backgrounds. All employees have the right to have fair wages and fair working conditions. Each employee should be given the right and opportunity to have their concerns brought out in the open. Employees should not be afraid of losing their job for speaking out for what they believe may be unjustified. A few years ago I was in a situation where I believed some things just were not fair. I worked with a fair number of men and women that put in long hours in one week. After a short time I began to notice that on Friday's the men would leave work early. Yes, they put in more than forty hours before Friday but so did many of the women. None of the women asked to leave early and none of them received any overtime pay compensation. One Friday afternoon I had an appointment to attend, which my immediate supervisor was aware of in advance, so I asked to cut out of work a little early to beat the Friday traffic. To my surprise it became a big deal to leave early. I was questioned by my supervisor and again by his supervisor. The way they came off to me was as if I was demanding that they give me the afternoon off. I
