SELF-EMPLOYED OR WORKING FOR SOMEBODY ELSE
Due to the current status of the economy, and that many companies are downsizing or outsourcing jobs, many people find themselves with the prospect of losing their jobs and having to take the decision of finding another job or starting their own business. Both life styles have many important and interesting differences.
When you work for yourself you do not have a boss pushing you all the time. You have the freedom to decide what is right for your business so you do not have to do things that you do not agree with. You do not have to file complicated tax forms, because the company deducts your tax payments. Most people who work from home put in more than 40 hours a week, so the work may be the same or even less. You can enjoy the camaraderie with your buddies at work while having a cup of coffee in the cafeteria. When you get back home from work you leave the problems at the office; therefore, you can enjoy the home time with your family. Finally you have a two week paid vacation per year without having to worry about the problems from work. Some of the disadvantages of working for somebody else are; that you can get fired any time without warning, the commute time in some cities can be painful, and sometimes it's stressful to work with others so you have to learn how to work in a team. You do not have the ability to set your own schedule, like for instance starting at 10 a.m. and working until 2 a.m. You have to account to someone else for your time, budget, results and paperwork. Getting up to the alarm clock can be a rude awakening if you aren't a naturally early-riser, and the adaptation to an 8 to 5 schedule can be monumental for some people. And last but not least you have to check out the dress code.
Overall the advantages of working from your home, and for yourself, are legendary, but as someone who has been self-employed for the last ten years I have come to learn that it can be also very challenging and not always lucrative. Basically the most important
