Cloning
Mike Pence, the current Governor of Indiana, once said “Human cloning is coming.” and he is right. It will be here before we know it. The subject of cloning has been a heated debate for years. Some people believe that there are advantages to cloning while others believe that cloning could be detrimental to our society. Also, cloning is very complex and the clones that have been made have had a lot of complications. Cloning is defined as a cell, cell product, or organism that is genetically identical to the unit which it came from. There are 3 types of cloning. There is gene, reproductive, and therapeutic cloning. Gene cloning is the process where a gene is located and copied out of DNA extracted from an organism. When the DNA is extracted, all of the genes are removed at one time. The DNA contains thousands of different genes (Gene Cloning). “Reproductive cloning is producing a genetic duplicate of an existing organism. Reproductive cloning usually is using a technique called somatic cell nuclear transfer. Researchers first take a somatic cell (any cell in the body besides sperm or an egg) from the creature they plan to clone, then they extract the cell 's nucleus which contains the cell 's nuclear DNA, and trash the rest. They then remove the nucleus of an egg cell and insert the somatic cell nucleus in its place. Next, they treat the reconstructed egg with chemicals or electricity to…
