The major objective of this paper is to look at the divorce rate in the United States, and how it effects Preschool, School age children, and finally adolescents. In the United States, many children deal with their parents getting a divorce. Children whose parents get a divorce report getting lower grades, feeling more depressed , as well as have poor conduct compared to children whose families are intact. When parents first get a divorce it is very rocky for their children to get adjusted to the new living situation, often times when parents get a divorce children often times go through financial hardships within the home, as well children feel they have lost one parent due to the fact that they don’t see that parent very often and the custodial parent must spend time with the other children. (Kail, R. V., & Cavanaugh, J. C.2013). When Children are in Preschool and Kindergarten they are at a very vulnerable stage in their life. When preschool age parents separate, it is difficult for the child to process what is going on and how it will affect the family. When parents choose to separate prior to their child entering grade school, the child feels responsible for the parents’ divorce and they also feel they are being abandoned by their parents. When dealing with student’s in preschool when parents divorce, if the child has a good relationship with the non-custodial parent the child is likely to do good work in school, play well with others, as well as have…
