Introduction Does the Lord approve legal divorce? This is a very highly controversial topic that many people in our society debate. According to dictionary.com, divorce is a judicial declaration dissolving a marriage in whole or in part, especially one that releases the marriage partners from all matrimonial obligations. A divorce is officially cutting ties with someone that you once vowed to be with forever. Divorce is something that God hates, as he says in Malachi 2:1, “For I hate divorce.” This scripture can only be interpreted in one way, because it is so straight forward. Divorce was not God’s plan for marriage. As it says in Mark 10:8, “and the two will become one flesh. So they are no longer two, but one flesh.” When you go before your friends and loved ones on the day of your wedding you are making a covenant, and becoming one flesh with your significant other. By divorcing you are separating the one flesh that you have become with your spouse. There are also differing opinions on whether marriage is a covenant or a commitment. There is a huge difference between a covenant and a commitment, one is promising to do something in the future and one is actually doing something and taking action. Have you ever heard someone say they just made a small mistake by getting a divorce? Can you really say that divorce is a small mistake though?
