Truth is an objective in a person’s life in which a journey is taken to find the answer to their question or an identity of themselves or others. In Plato’s allegory of the cave The Republic VII, Plato discusses the steps that is needed to taken to find the real truth to one’s self. These theory created by the world famous philosopher can be related to many text and life on how truth is formed. Plato relates the Republic VII to a cave and how a man must step out the darkness of the cave and its many obstacles to find real truth. This leads to Othello’s formation of truth as the manipulator Iago controls the puppet Othello. Iago or the manipulator is the antagonist of the story because his jealousy of Othello’s power and merit lead to actions taken against Othello and other characters. He then controls the characters of the story with lies and deceit to unfold his plans against Othello. Iago first show his manipulation as he put thoughts of Desdemona or Othello’s wife of having an affair with Cassio (Othello’s Lieutenant): “Beware, my lord, of jealousy; / It is the green-eyed monster, which doth mock / The meat it feeds on:” (Shakespeare 3.3. 191-193). By telling Othello not to be jealous, Iago manages to put the idea in his head. No one will realize that puppeteer is the mastermind behind everything because Othello believes that he is acting on his own even when his every move is already premeditated by Iago. This gives Iago the power as a puppeteer who has external force as Plato suggests and tries to keep Othello form leaving the darkness the cave. Even though lies are great manipulation a stereotype from one’s own mind may be as deceitful as an external force like Iago.
