The formula is simple. Costs of dental work in native country should be higher then the cost of same treatment procedure in the destination country plus additional costs, which include the cost of the departure, accommodation and food cost and some extra activities like visiting well known cultural or historical places in the country you travel.
For US, UK or Western Europe patients it is very convenient to treat their teeth in Eastern Europe.
The cost of dental care in these countries is low because of the low cost of infrastructure and manpower. However, the quality of the treatment is comparable to what is offered in the West. Some dental tourism destinations form part of the Europe and the European Economic Area and dentist in these countries are bound by the same regulations that are in force in the rest of Europe.
Austrians, Germans and other Europeans for decades have been crossing the former „Iron Curtain“ to get their teeth fixed, often at jaw-droppingly low prices. Their „target“ countries are Hungary, Czech Republic and Poland.
Now, a small but growing number of Americans, prompted by soaring medical costs and low insurance benefits at home, are following suit. They're contributing to the rising popularity of „tooth tourism“, relatively young, but fast-growing global phenomenon in which travelers from wealthier countries, visit less-developed nations for medical care mixed with vacation or business – all at cut-rate prices.
